A Few Reasons to Write a Poem

Because the sun cast a pink and yellow glow across the sky last night.

Because my mom and Maddie and Katie delight in each other’s presence.

Because brave Maddie was fearless during her swim lessons.

Because Maddie’s bravery brought tears to my eyes.

Because the pool water made Katie’s curly hair go wild.

Because my husband always says ‘good night.’

Because it is almost time for an afternoon coffee.

Because I see hope on the horizon.
