Quiet

Peace

Solitude

The sound of
a tiny trickle of water

Silence

Lost in my thoughts

Alone

Seconds pass, maybe minutes

Here, there is no clock

I sit

I stretch

I breathe.

I hear a sound in the distance
and fear it is coming closer
My solitude, about to end…

“MOMMY!”

“Hold on, I’m in the bathroom!”

Sigh.

  1. I deliberately left my alarm off this morning as I didn’t feel well last night. I was awoken around 7 by the swish swish of my daughter’s princess dress coming towards our room. Fortunately, she went right to my wife who went downstairs, so I got a little extra sleep. It’s amazing how that sound wakes me up though!

  2. I loved this poem! It certainly made me laugh. I especially liked how you brought your reader further and further into your relaxation and then built suspense as you hinted that it was about to end. What a funny ending!

  3. I am sitting here (in front of the computer, not in the bathroom) laughing out loud. I remember conversations through the bathroom door. Wait, that was just yesterday. My kids aren’t around anymore. I have to stop responding to my husband during my alone time.

  4. Is it bad that sometimes I resort to the bathroom to find solitude at work? Seriously – my office door is on the way to everywhere, I swear, and sometimes, when I have had enough “Hey, ya got a second?” drop ins, I head to the bathroom. The kid-free, one-stall, nobody else can come in because the door is locked, bathroom. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. The coveted bathroom, you can steal away in silence, read a quick magazine article, until……Are you done yet? Well can I come in? What are you doing?………
